Successo annunciato: Sam Smith è il vero trionfatore dell’ultima edizione dei Grammy Awards 2015, che si sono tenuti questa notte allo Staples Center di Los Angeles. Con sei nomination ottenute (record condiviso con Beyoncé e Pharrell Williams), il debuttante inglese riesce a portare a casa ben quattro statuette, tra cui il premio per il Best New Artist e l’accoppiata Song Of The Year e Record Of The Year con l’acclamato singolo “Stay With Me”. Un successo che, come dichiarato da Sam Smith sul palco, non sarebbe mai avvenuto senza la rottura di un fidanzamento:
Voglio ricordare l’uomo al quale è stato dedicato questo disco: mi avrai rotto il cuore, ma mi hai anche fatto vincere quattro Grammy.
Altri due nomi possono uscire con il titolo di vincitore dall’arena californiana. Il primo è Beck: protagonista di un riuscito duetto con Chris Martin dei Coldplay e di un teatrino con Kanye West (che lo avrebbe invitato, scherzosamente, a scusarsi e consegnare il premio a Beyoncé), uno dei più importanti esponenti della scena indie rock riesce a portare a casa l’accoppiata Album Of The Year, battendo nomi come Beyoncé ed Ed Sheeran, e Best Rock Album, col quale lascia a bocca asciutta Black Keys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers e U2. L’altro è Kendrick Lamar, capace di vincere con “i” la combo Best Rap Song e Best Rap Performance, sbaragliando una concorrenza non da poco composta da Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Drake ed Eminem. Con il rapper di Detroit che, comunque porta a casa l’ambito award per il Best Rap Album con “Marshall Mathers LP 2”.
Tra gli altri vincitori viaggiano conferme e sonore sorprese: tra tutti spicca Aphex Twin, capace di vincere il Best Dance/Electronica Album battendo il titolato deadmau5 e l’accoppiata Röyksopp & Robyn. Non resta a mani vuote Pharrell Williams, che con la sua “Happy” vince per il Best Music Video e la Best Pop Vocal Performance e il suo “G I R L” porta a casa il titolo di Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Dal lato rock, invece, vittoria nel Best Rock Song per i Paramore (la loro “Ain’t It Fun” batte “Fever” dei Black Keys e “Lazaretto” di Jack White) e sorpresa per i Tenacious D nel Best Metal Performance, che vincono contro Mastodon e Slipknot. Nel Best Alternative Album trionfa invece St.Vincent che, con il suo disco omonimo, supera di misura gli Arcade Fire e Jack White. Una sola consolazione per l’ex White Stripes, vittima nei giorni scorsi di un guac-gate con la University of Oklahoma: la sua “Lazzaretto” porta a casa il titolo di Best Rock Performance.
Tra le numerose performance alle quali si è potuto assistere la notizia più importante è una: come anticipato da alcuni rumor nel weekend, Chris Slade è tornato negli AC/DC nel ruolo di batterista, con i quali ha suonato un’infuocata versione del classico “Highway To Hell”. Sono più di venti gli artisti, o i duetti, che hanno calcato il palco dello Staples Center: tra le tante, saranno destinate ad entrare nella storia le esibizioni di Beyoncé, il duetto tra Sam Smith e Mary J Blige, l’inedito trio West/Rihanna McCartney e Hozier, che si è presentato sul palco con Annie Lennox. Senza infamia e senza lode, invece, altre esibizioni tanto strombazzate come i duetti Adam Levine/Gwen Stefani, Jessie J/Tom Jones e Pharrell Williams, ormai ridotto a macchietta nel proporre la sua “Happy” ad ogni occasione.
