Dopo la prima giornata con Rolling Stones e Bob Dylan, il Desert Trip ha ospitato nella serata di sabato le due attesissime esibizioni di Paul McCartney e Neil Young. Il musicista e attivista politico canadese è il primo a calcare il palco di Indio (California) e propone una scaletta in linea con quanto già suonato nel suo recente tour europeo, con diversi estratti dalla sua carriera quarantennale e con brani di “Earth”, il suo ultimo progetto. A chiudere la serata “Rockin in the free world”, uno degli inni rock per eccellenza.
Le vere sorprese però arrivano con l’esibizione dell’ex Beatles, autore di un concerto indicato dalla stampa specializzata come una delle migliori esibizioni del baronetto in Nordamerica. In una scaletta infarcita di classici dei Beatles, nella parte centrale della performance è stato invitato sul palco Neil Young, introdotto come “un grande amico” con il quale sì è esibito su “A Day in the Life”, “Give Peace a Chance” della Plastic Ono Band e “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?”; nell’ultimo pezzo, inserito a sorpresa in scaletta, Young è stato protagonista di quello che è stato definito dalla stampa come un grande assolo. Per il resto, Paul McCartney conferma le sue grandi doti di intrattenitore, proponendo una scaletta che riesce a fare contenti tutti, sia i fan di vecchissima data sia quelli che apprezzano il suo repertorio più recente, come “Queenie Eye” e la collaborazione con Rihanna e Kanye West “FourFiveSeconds”.
Il primo weekend del Desert Trip terminerà questa sera con i concerti di Roger Waters e The Who.
